Who we are
Handstand Press is the proud publisher of books celebrating the culture and landscape of Cumbria, England’s arguably most beautiful county. We are a community business, working with authors and a team of local professionals to produce high-quality publications ranging in content from Cumbria’s industrial past to its famous country houses and towns; from memoirs to poetry and children’s fiction. Our mission is to make a lasting contribution to the history and life of this special place.
Need advice?
The name Handstand was inspired by a small bronze sculpture of two acrobatic hares. Handstand Press is happy to give advice to authors who would like to get published. Although we don’t accept unsolicited manuscripts we offer a relatively inexpensive script-reading service. Contact us by email for more details.
A Bit about us
Handstand Press was founded in 2005 by Liz Nuttall at the Bookshop at the Tinners’ Rabbit in Ulverston. The aim was to meet customer demand for local books. The first published work was an account of the construction of the Hoad Monument in Ulverston. Since then Handstand has published, on average, two books a year ranging from poetry to memoir, industrial and landscape history, and fiction for children and young adults.
